This festival is an opportunity for the inhabitants of Oaxaca and visitors from around the world to celebrate together the cultural diversity and rich history of the region. The Guelaguetza is a unique and unforgettable event that offers an authentic cultural experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

The term Guelaguetza is derived from the Zapotec word guendalezaa, which means “offering, present or fulfillment”. It is one of the most popular traditions in the state of Oaxaca. Delegations from the eight regions of Oaxaca, dressed in characteristic regional costumes, will present traditional dances from their communities. The wonderful children’s dance group, Danza de la pluma de Zaachila, is part of the program. In addition to dance and music, the Guelaguetza Festival also features a variety of local crafts, as well as food, and drinks such as: tamales, mole, mezcal, and chocolate. 

The event is held in an amphitheater originally built as an open-air bullring and can hold up to 3,200 people in two sections: Luneta and Galería; so the acoustics and view of the stage are incredible! Don't forget to wear sunscreen and a cap or hat to fully enjoy this huge party of music, dance and joy.

The tour will go directly to the arena for the performances, have time to buy food and crafts, and then stay for the calenda before the evening performance.

• Food/drink. There will be vendors around the arena.
