Title: Behind the Garden Wall: An Inside Look at Oaxaca's Ethnobotanic Garden
Presenter: Carole Turkenik
Date: Wednesday, January 19, 2022 @ 5 pm
Synopsis: The best way to view the Garden and learn about the plants is by visiting in person and taking a tour. But none of the tours, not even the two-hour English tour, has the time to point out and explain more than a fraction of the history, organization, architecture, and functioning of the space. In this talk I will try to fill in some of that background so that when you do visit, you will, hopefully, have a more comprehensive understanding of what you are seeing.
Bio: Carole has made Oaxaca her home for 20-plus years, and she has been an English language tour guide at the Ethnobotanic Garden for the same 20-plus years. She has a PhD in anthropology, the ethno-part, and she is an avid gardener and garden-lover, the botanic part.
