About the Hike:  This is deservedly our most popular hike! You will enjoy the drive to and from the Sabinos trailhead as Hwy 135 winds through the Zimatlan valley to the south of Oaxaca. It takes two hours to get there, but it is a relaxing drive. The little town of Igriega (“Y” in English – yes, that is really its name) sits in a pleasant valley along the Atoyac river. Huge Sabinos trees line the banks of the stream, giving name to this hike. You will enjoy the peace and solitude of the place as you amble along the trail.The Atoyac river will surprise you, as the clear water and lush foliage along the banks are nothing like the polluted, smelly stream that courses through Oaxaca. A walking stick will come in handy to cross streams.
