Synopsis:
A small cave lying in the hills a short distance from Mitla is a little-known “Mecca” of sorts as it attracts pilgrims living hundreds of kilometers away who come to commune with the spirits of deceased loved ones and other potent supernatural forces. The use of the cave extends back to 500 B.C.E. when it came to be regarded as a portal or gateway to the Underworld and a threshold to the supernatural realm and its powers.
Come to the lecture and learn how the ancestors, and access to them, lie at the heart of Zapotec wordview in the past and present.
This is a Welte Research Institute of Oaxaca presentation. Proceeds will be shared with the Welte in support of their mission.
