Acerca del evento

Presentation:

The Wixárika (plural: Wixaritari) are an Indigenous people of Mexico residing in the Sierra Madre Occidental range across Jalisco, Nayarit, Durango, and Zacatecas, often called Huicholes (in Spanish). Known as "the deep-hearted people who love knowledge," they possess an ancient, distinct culture centered on the sacred, visionary use of hikuri (peyote) and intricate, colorful bead and yarn art.

Their religion centers on a deep, spiritual, and ecological connection with nature, involving an annual pilgrimage to their sacred desert, Wirikuta, in San Luis Potosí.

Known for brilliant, symbolic folk art, including bead-covered masks/figures and yarn paintings (nierikas) that depict visions from their rituals.

Guest Speaker:

Come join us at the next Psychedelic Salon Oaxaca, with special guest Maximiliano Simpson. Max will discuss the Wixárika, their sacred plant medicine peyote, and the history of their visionary art.
