Tour Description: Zaachila might only be a 45 minute drive out of Oaxaca into the southern central valley, but it has a beautiful feel of a place suspended in time. Zaachila has become well known for its Muertos and other wall art, and just walking around the town is such a visual treat. Make sure to bring your extra camera or phone battery.

We'll start our day at the archeological site, which hosts two lovely tombs we can go down into, and a small hill to climb to get great views of the fertile valley ahead. We will then walk

over the the market for lunch, snacks and wandering. Zaachila is famous for roasted goat meat (barbacoa de chivo) and it's ice cream (nieves). There will also be lots of day of the dead flowers and decoration stalls to enjoy. Ater about 90 minutes of both free and guided time at the market, we'll walk about 5 blocks over to the cemetary, checking out the wall art as we go. Zaachila will publish it's Day of the Dead calendar of evetns and activities in a few weeks, so we may choose to include one or more of those in our tour day.

Special considerations:Walking shoes and comfortable clothes as well as water and sunscreen are a must on this tour. You will walk up stairs, down into tombs, on uneven surfaces and through crowded markets. Leave your diamonds at home, bring money in small bills in your pocket or over the shoulder bag.

Additional Costs:  $90 pesos entrance fee to archeological site (unless you have an INAPAM card), lunch at the market ($100 - $150 pesos)

This tour will depart on time from Calle Los Libres behind the Grand Fiesta Americana Hotel. Plan to arrive 15 minutes before departure time. Unclaimed seats may be re-sold at boarding time.

If this tour is sold out, you can take a chance that seats may be available and come to the boarding spot 15 minutes before departure. These seats must be paid for in cash.
