Today’s outing in the countryside has two major sections. The first is the bus ride, which will take nearly two hours  and will give you some great views out over the Oaxaca valley as we wind our way slowly to the top of the mountain range to the west of Monte Alban. After passing through the small village of Cuatro Venados (“Four Deer”), we will eventually enter the rolling countryside up top where we will hike out & back 6 miles (9.5 km) on a little-used dirt road that is relatively flat  –  the elevation gain & loss amounts to just 600 feet (182 meters). We will be at an altitude of 9000-9100 feet (2743-2774 meters), so you can expect temperatures to be pleasantly cooler than in the Oaxaca valley. Bring a sack lunch to eat on the trail.

Time frame: 8:30 am depart from Parque Llano (parking lot across from the park on Dr. Liceaga) / Van rest stop at Cuatro Venados / Lunch on trail / Van rest stop in Jalapa del Valle / 4:30 pm return to Oaxaca.
