About the event

About the Hike: The name Teotitlán comes from Nahuatl and means “land of the gods”. Its Zapotec name is Xaguixe, which means “at the foot of the mountain”. It is known for its textiles, especially rugs, which are woven on hand-operated looms from wool dyed mainly with local, natural pigments. Most people here retain ancient traditions; a majority of the inhabitants speak Zapotec. The trail starts in Teotitlán and climbs to the top of El Pacacho and back. the climb takes about 90 minutes and back down about 75 minutes.

Type/Difficulty: Mountain / Difficult

Hike Type: Out & Back

Distance: 6.8 km to the top and back; some hikers may choose not to go to the top.

Elevation Change: + 327 m / - 317 m.; up to 21% grade.

Additional fees: Entrance fee, $50-100 pesos; small change is also useful for use of facilities.

Meal: Lunch at a restaurant in Teotitlan del Valle
