In ART ACTIVATION, Lena Bartula takes us on a journey through her years as a textile artist, social activist, and recycle enthusiast. These are masks and layers she wears simultaneously, making it impossible to separate the art from the artist. Her voice is not a passive one; she has been and continues to be an ARTivist. From her first social enterprise, Mariposas San Miguel, 2009 – 2011, to her latest global project, Yo Te Veo SMA, the path she continues to follow is stitched with threads of a love for humanity that knows no borders. Her passion is contagious, help other artists discover their own language and vision in ways that make a difference.

Presenter: Lena Bartula is a visual artist, writer, activist, curator, gallerist, and workshop facilitator. Originally inspired by the huipil, she utilizes materials that are vintage, recycled, donated, all of which come with their own stories before becoming her stories. She is the author of “Whispers in the Thread” — a celebration of 15 years of alternative huipiles from 2003-2018. Bartula has lived in Mexico since 2004 and lives and works in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.
