About the event

Mount St. Helens, the catastrophically Fujiyama of the northwest, sprang to life following three months off seismic activity with ash circling our entire planet. 59 people were lost including, Dave Johnson, a geologist with the USGS, whose body was never found. Science resulting from this gigantic eruption plus photographs will be shown and discussed, which portray the mountain as it was before, during, and after this historic occurrence.

Presenter:

Dr. Ian M. Lange is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Washington where he received a Ph.D. in Geology and Isotopic/Geochemistry. Ian taught Geology at the University of California Fresno, Dartmouth College, and the University of Montana. He has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals in the area of Geology. He has two books to his credit: one on Ice-Age mammals and one on volcanoes. Both books are available in the Oaxaca Lending Library. Currently, he has a third book in progress. Ian’’s interests include writing, animals, world travel, population growth, and planetary problems.
