Synopsis: How much of the nativity story is historically verifiable? How to explain the elements that may not be? We will analyze the Annunciation and Nativity stories using modern tools of biblical scholarship, along with recent developments in psychology, archeology and literary analysis.


Presenter:

Marlene LeGates. Dr. LeGates received her Ph.D. from Yale University with a speciality in Early Modern European history. She taught at universities in the U.S. and Canada, offering a wide range of courses from Canadian History to Latin American History, and especially in Women's History. Her book, In Their Time: A History of Feminism in Western Society, was published by Routledge in 2001. She has continued to teach in the Liberal Arts Program at Simon Fraser University, Vancouiver, B.C. When not teaching, she enjoys Baroque music, gardening, and travelling.
