Presentation: Among the most celebrated and enduring public murals painted by Diego Rivera are those located at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) in Detroit, Michigan. Known as the Detroit Industry Murals, these remarkable works were first opened in 1933. Collectively, they have since been designated as a National Historic Landmark by the US Government. Please join us for a visual tour of murals, which will feature key figures and scenes from its 27 panels.
Presenter:
Joel Stern has been a docent at the Detroit Institute of Arts for the past five years. In addition, he completed extra study and research on Diego Rivera and the Detroit Industry Murals. Now retired from a career in fundraising, Mr. Stern conducts over 30 tours of the museum each year. He is also an active musician and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Music at Wayne State University in Detroit.
