About the event

Presentation:

IMPACTS

Today we regularly learn of droughts, floods, wildfires, hurricanes, sea level rise and power outages across the world. And sometimes we or people we know are caught up directly.

SOLUTIONS

Today we are witnessing an explosion of innovation in new decarbonization technologies. Clean energy versions of electricity and vehicles will soon out-compete fossil fuel versions in most parts of the world. This would solve half the problem. And technology revolutions in the harder areas - manufacturing, agriculture, airlines and cargo boats - are now in sight.

RESOLVE

Today, finally, we see signs of public and private resolve to address the climate crisis. The private sector is now investing heavily in climate tech as a business opportunity. Countries are laying down significant, publicly-funded climate policies. And the international grass roots peoples’ climate movement grows, ever demanding more and faster action.

Presenter:

Larry Gussin, 2009-11 principal original investigator at Nest Labs, has been a climate solutions activist since 2007. He donates to climate activist nonprofits through the Gussin Climate Action Fund at Sierra Club Foundation. He is a regular winter visitor to Oaxaca.
