About the event

McCaughan will share visual art produced in the context of Mexico’s gay rights movements and discuss how the images helped to shape new discourses and imagine new subjects constituted around the intersections of gender, sexuality, and national identity.

Presenter:

Edward J. McCaughan, Emeritus Professor of Sociology at San Francisco State University, is a writer and curator. He is the author of several books, including Art and Social Movements: Cultural Politics in Mexico and Aztlán. He lives in Oaxaca with his husband, painter John Kaine.
