About the event
Synopsis:
A wave revolutionary social movements, often aided by artists, swept the world in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. In North America one activist artist—Rini Templeton (1935-1986)—participated in the Cuban Revolution, the Chicano movements in New Mexico and California, and a wide variety of popular
movements throughout Mexico. Over the course of 25 years, Templeton created thousands of graphics that armed these struggles with deceptively simple, potent images of people engaged in social change.
McCaughan worked closely with Templeton and recently completed a book about her. He will talk about the social movements in which she participated and the art work she created amidst revolutionary ferment.
Presenter:

Dr. Edward J. McCaughan is emeritus professor of Sociology at San Francisco State University. He is the author of several books, including Art and Social Movements: Cultural Politics in Mexico and Aztlán.
