About the event

This presentation, when given in December, was so successful that it is being given again, by popular demand. It is about  the current condition of the species and ecosystems in Oaxaca at greatest risk, as well as the urgent actions necessary for their conservation. The presenter is Hector Aguilar, a biologist with 37 years’ experience studying and protecting the plants and animals of the State of Oaxaca. He will share his encyclopedic knowledge and answer questions in a richly illustrated presentation.

Presenter:

Hector Aguilar is a graduate of the National School of Biological Sciences of the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico. He has been a researcher at CIIDIR, the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Integral Regional Development. He was coordinator of the national program for the conservation of sea turtles in the Lagunas de Chacahua National Park. He was the head of the Environmental Impact Unit of "Sedesol" (Secretariat of Social Development) in Oaxaca, and later he became a deputy delegate for environmental protection of the same institution. He also served as head of the protected natural areas unit of the Semarnat (Secretariat of the Environment). In the last 20 years, he has dedicated himself to advising various communities and developing independent research with a community focus on sea turtles, crocodiles, green macaws, wild mushrooms. In that time, he has contributed to the conservation of jungles, temperate forests, and coastal lagoons.
