About the event

Trip description:

The weavers of Teotitlan del Valle are world-famous for the carpets and tapestries

they create, along with many other useful items.

On today’s tour our first stop will be at Vida Nueva - “A New Life” - a weavers’ cooperative run by single or widowed women. They will be happy to tell you about the history and purpose of the collective; show how they use natural dyes to color the wool; then demonstrate how they weave the yarn to make the final product.

From there we will go to Arte y Seda, where we will be given a presentation on the process of raising silk worms, harvesting the silk, spinning, dying (natural dyes), and then weaving it.

Our last stop will be at the Comedor el Jaguar for a discussion and demonstration of the process of making chocolate.

This will also be our lunch stop for the day.

Additional charges: There will be a charge of 100 pesos per person for the chocolate demonstration and tasting, collected when you get on the van.

Lunch stop: Comedor el Jaguar in Teotitlan. Expect to pay about 150 pesos for food and beverage. Soup is not included in this price, but may be purchased separately.
