About the event

Description:

The region around Oaxaca is filled with small, home-centered workshops which produce an amazing array of arts and crafts. Today we will visit three of these clustered in San Antonino Castillo Valasco and San Tomas Jalieza. Our first stop will be at the Aguja de Plata community embroidery worship where local women produce intricate hand-embroidered designs on various articles of clothing. Next we will visit the home and workshop of Angel Aquilar, who makes

incredible swords and knives from scrap metal. Finally, we will spend time at Telarte Guenda, a family co-operative where native brown cotton is grown, harvested, spun into thread, dyed and then woven on backstrap looms.

Lunch Stop: Lunch will be at the delightful Azucena Zapoteca restaurant nearby, which features many tasty dishes, including Chiles Enogada. (the cost of lunch is not included in your ticket)
