Tour - San Marcos Tlapazola

One of the characteristics of Tlapazola is that women run the town, as most menfolk have left for work in the north of Mexico or the U.S. In our visit to Creaciones Tlapazola we will see how these articles of clothing are made.

About the event

San Marcos Tlapazola is a sleepy little village tucked up against a mountain ridge a few miles to the south of Tlacolula, the principal city of the valley that bears that name. Women of the town wear traditional dresses and aprons, even when tending their flocks or working in fields. One of the characteristics of Tlapazola is that women run the town, as most menfolk have left for work in the north of Mexico or the U.S. In our visit to Creaciones Tlapazola we will see how these articles of clothing are made. At the mid-point of our visit there will be a demonstration of how tejate - a traditional drink of the region - is made. To wrap things up, we will watch as Alberta & Lety deftly fashion ceramic vessels from the red clay the village is noted for.

Additional Fees:  50 pesos to cover the cost of making tejate

Lunch Stop: restaurants on perimeter of Tlacolula market or food vendors inside

All tours depart on time from the Southeast corner of Llano Park (nearest corner to OLL) at 9 am. Unclaimed seats may be re-sold at boarding time.
