About the event

The Tour:

Santa Maria Tlahuitoltepec is a charming Mixe town high in the Sierra Norte. It is famous

for the unique patterns embroidered on shirts, blouses and other garments. There are also a

number of potters and weavers in the village. Also striking is the musical heritage of the townspeople. There are six music schools in town, and it seems everyone there plays at least one instrument. We will be entertained by a performance of the orchestra at one of these schools.

A big feature of this outing is the beautiful but long drive through the mountains to reach Tlahui.

Those affected by motion sickness should come prepared. Bringing a jacket along is also a good idea, as it is often chilly and windy in Tlahui.

Lastly, this is a mountain town built on a steep slope. There are lots of stairs and sidewalks tilt sharply downward. People with mobility issues should be wary of going on this outing.

Because of the long distance and added travel time (about three hours each way), this tour will cost 500 pesos for OLL members and 550 pesos for non-members, and participants should not plan to return to Oaxaca before 8 pm.

Lunch:

Lunch will be in one of the small local restaurants. Expect limited menu, but tasty food at a good price
