Tour Description: Suchilquitongo is home to a fantastic archeological site. Small and special, exploring a site that so few people visit is special on its own, and Rubén, an archeologist from INAH has agreed to join us to share information and stories about this site. Although we can’t access the tomb itself, as the paintings inside it are fragile, we do get to see incredible pictures of it at our next stop, the community museum.

David, the director of tourism for Suchilquitongo, is our host at the community museum, which is divided into two parts, the tomb section, which

houses some of the most incredible artifacts in Oaxaca, along with pictures and maquettes of the tomb. The second part of the museum is dedicated

to the towns rich traditions and artisans of today, and next we’re off to visit one of them!

We’re now headed off to an artisan of red stone, who will explain the quarry and crafting process to his work.

Finally, we will enjoy lunch at a small comedor by the entrance arches before heading back into the city.

NOTES: The archeological site requires a moderate degree of mobility to access the site. Guests should expect to walk uphill on uneven

terrain for about 500 meters.

Donations to the community museum are expected.

Lunch: Lunch will be around 2:30. Expect to pay about 250 pesos for food and beverages.

This tour will depart on time  from Calle Los Libres behind the Grand Fiesta Americana Hotel. Plan to arrive 15 minutes before departure time. Unclaimed seats may be re-sold at boarding time.

If this tour is sold out, you can take a chance that seats may be available and come to the boarding spot 15 minutes before departure. These seats must be paid for in cash.
