About the event
Description:
Our first stop on today’s tour will be at the Navarro family in Santo Tomas Jalieza. Gerardo is an accomplished painter and his three sisters, Crispina, Balbina & Magarita, work magic on their backstrap looms. You will love to see the marvelous things they create. Many small items for sale in their shop including: handmade purses, bags, shirts and blouses and much more
Next we will travel to San Antonino Castillo Velasco to visit Manos Que Ven, the sculpture workshop of the blind sculptor Juan Jose Garcia Antonio. He has a special devotion to creating mermaids in clay. https://taller-manos-que-ven-jose-garcia-antonio.negocio.site/
Lastly we will pay a visit to the marvelous alebrije workshop of Jacobo & Maria Angeles in San Martin Tilcajete. This couple has been invited to display their intricately painted creations all over the world. While most alebrijes are produced on a small scale by mom & pop workshops, the Angeles have geared up to industrial proportions. This has allowed them to employ dozens of locals to learn the trade and to launch a major reforestation project to plant copal trees, the wood of which is used in the fabrication of alebrijes. https://jacoboymariaangeles.com/
Lunch stop:
We will have lunch at AMLU, a delightful restaurant in Tilcajete, before beginning the drive back to Oaxaca. You will likely spend about 250 pesos for food and beverages. (not included in ticket)
