Trip description

The weavers of Teotitlan del Valle are world-famous for the carpets and tapestries they create, along with many other useful items. On today’s tour our first stop will be at Vida Nueva - “A New Life” - a weavers’ cooperative run by single or widowed women.  They will be happy to tell you about the history and purpose of the collective; show how

they use natural dyes to color the wool; then demonstrate how they weave the yarn to make the final product. From there we will go to Comedor el Jaguar for a discussion and demonstration of the process of making chocolate. Then off to Arte y Seda, where we will be given a presentation on the process of raising silk worms, harvesting the silk, spinning, dying (natural dyes), and then weaving it. Our last stop will again be at the Comedor el Jaguar for lunch.

Option of visiting new cultural center in town. This will add another 45 minutes to the schedule.

Additional Fees:  There will be a charge of 80 pesos per person for the chocolate demonstration and tasting, which will be collected when boarding the van.

Lunch stop:  Comedor el Jaguar in Teotitlan. Expect to pay about 150 pesos for food and beverage
