Tour Description:

We´ll head out into the south western valley today to explore the artisans, crafts and culture along the way to the Ejutla Festival of

Lights.

Our first stop is the MEAPO, the Museo Estatal de Arte Popular de Oaxaca, in San Bartolo Coyotepec. There is an exhibit of over 200 pieces of tin work on display at this lovely museum. After marveling at the lovely work here at the museum, we will head to San Martin Tilcajete to visit the carvers and painters at their kiosks in the Municipal square. They are not usually set up like this, but for Christmas all the carvers come together to sell at small stands, and I love being able to see the different work side by side. (Hot tip: There is a ceramicist who has a stall at the fair, and she makes such lovely unique pieces. Look for her!)

Next is lunch!

Finally, we will head over to the Ocotlán market for the end of their market day. Wander the market or the Rudolfo Morales museum, and we´ll head out

for a final leg of the journey to Ejutla to take in the festival of lights in their Municipal square. Enjoy the food vendor stalls, the light display and the

community for about 90 minutes, and then we´ll head back to the city.

NOTE:

Lunch: Lunch will be later, around 2:30PM.

Bring snacks if you usually eat around noon.

Expect to pay about 250 pesos for food and beverages.

Additional costs: Entrance to the museums and personal purchases. Bring cash and preferably small bills if you can. Optional tip for the driver at the end of the tour day.

This tour will depart on time  from Calle Los Libres behind the Grand Fiesta Americana Hotel. Plan to arrive 15 minutes before departure time. Unclaimed seats may be re-sold at boarding time.

If this tour is sold out, you can take a chance that seats may be available and come to the boarding spot 15 minutes before departure. These seats must be paid for in cash.

No Refunds will be available. If you are not able to attend the event, you are welcome to sell your reservation to others. Please notify the library of change of name for reservation.
